The box arrives looking like a thick-spined hardcover standing on end, its front edge and spine wrapped in red and green tartan, a cream panel set into the cover and thin gold scrollwork curling through the corners. A black Scottie in a red tartan scarf sits in the snow before a stone cottage with its windows lit, a lamppost ribboned in red behind him. Under the title, a green roundel reads 24 ACRYLIC ORNAMENTS. Twenty-four small terriers come out of that case, one for each December day.
Each day gives up a single ornament, and no two are dressed alike. The accessories range across Santa hats, tartan scarves, knit sweaters, string lights, a red stocking, a small sleigh, a wreath and a wrapped gift. Coats run jet black, gray brindle and pale wheaten cream, so the row mixes all three finishes. At the crown of every figure sits a fine gold loop, so the piece goes straight onto a branch, a hook or a wreath.
A Case Built Like a Book
The case is rigid and thick-walled, square at the corners, and stands upright on its own bottom edge. The tartan print runs unbroken across the front edge, the spine and the side panel; the cream cover panel is printed separately inside a border of gold filigree. Down the spine the title repeats vertically, SCOTTISH TERRIER LOVES CHRISTMAS, so the box reads as a book on a shelf.
The Scene on the Cover
The cover illustration sets a snow-dusted village around the dog, with a decorated fir hung with red baubles, wrapped gifts, and a lamppost tied with a red bow. The cottage windows are lit. The ornaments are sculpted in three dimensions, with molded fur texture and a matte painted coat, not flat discs.

Why These Dogs Read as Scotties
Scotties come out of the western Highlands and the Hebrides: a short-legged, rough-coated terrier officially recognized as the Scottish Terrier in 1879. The figures follow that outline rather than a generic puppy shape, with a long head, erect ears, short legs and a solid body. Coat color varies from dark gray to jet black and brindle, with wheaten dogs from straw to nearly white, and all three finishes appear in the set.
A wheaten figure keeps the same long head and short-legged stance as the black ones, so the three finishes read as one breed rather than three toys. That variation is what keeps the row from looking like a matched set; each figure reads as an individual dog dressed for the month. Twenty-four pieces, twenty-four answers to the same question of what a Scottie wears in December.
Counted One Terrier at a Time
The printed advent calendar has a maker’s story behind it. German publisher Gerhard Lang is credited with the format, said to be inspired by his mother sewing twenty-four cookies into a box lid so he could eat one a day through Advent; the December 1 start and the run of twenty-four settled in Germany after 1945. Here the reveal is a dog rather than a door to lift. The countdown happens on the table: the row grows as the case empties, and by Christmas Eve the whole set can hang on the tree.
Because the case stands on its own, it stays on the mantel or the sideboard as the backdrop to the row, printed spine facing out, cottage scene facing the room. The figures need nothing to sit on a shelf; they can stand in stepped rows in front of the case, and the gold loop at each crown lets them hang once the tree goes up. A household can work front to back across the scene, let each person pick by shape, or keep the black dogs for the tree and the pale ones for the mantel.

By the time the tree comes down, the box has done two jobs: it carried a December countdown and it left a set of ornaments that go up again next year. That makes it a fair gift for a Scottie household, a breed-club friend, or someone who already hangs black terrier ornaments and would take a wheaten one into the collection, and for anyone who wants a countdown with something to keep at the end of it.
