.The history of the Colorado Avalanche hockey team takes us all the way back to the early 1990s. The team came about from the creation of the National Hockey League’s expansion teams. The original home for the Avalanche was at the McNichols Arena in Denver, Colorado. The team began its first NHL season in 1995-96. A number of memorable players graced the ice for the Avalanche in their early years, such as Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg, Patrick Roy, and Adam Deadmarsh. These teams proved to be very competitive, and they quickly gained a loyal following.Although the original team name was the Quebec Nordiques, the franchise moved from Quebec City to Denver in 1995, and the name was changed to Avalanche in an effort to portray the newly found icy conditions of the Rocky Mountains. This move was later officially approved by the league’s Board of Governors in July of that same year. Over the years, the Avalanche have been a consistently strong team, earning a few President’s Trophies, two Stanley Cups, and multiple playoff appearances throughout their history.The Avalanche’s spiderman design was created in 2001 in honor of the 10th anniversary of the franchise’s arrival in Colorado. The design features a silhouette of a skier against a white background, with a blue “arrow” pointing to the left of the A, and it was used to emphasize the team’s vision of power and speed. The design was based on the typical spidey-man logo that is present in many other sports teams’ logos. The logo was officially adopted by the Avalanche and presented during the 2001-02 season.Today, the Colorado Avalanche are one of the most storied franchises in hockey and an ongoing success through their passionate fanbase.
