Labrador Outdoor Advent Calendar 2026

A yellow Labrador pup sits on a rock ledge above a slate-blue lake, an olive backpack strapped to its back with a bedroll rolled on top, a red bandana knotted at its throat, pine forest and snow-dusted peaks rising behind it. That is the painting on the cover, printed like a vintage park poster, and it sets the destination for everything inside: twenty-four Labrador puppies, sculpted in three dimensions, each one carrying a single piece of trail gear.

The set is one rigid, book-shaped presentation case plus twenty-four separate figures. The case holds loose pieces, not openings or slots: no die-cut panels, no flaps, no numbered hollows in a tray. One pup comes out each day. The set thins as December goes, the shelf fills, and by the end the group stands as a small scene of its own.

Every figure is posed differently, and the gear is the reason. A chocolate pup sits in a wooden rowboat with a paddle, the boat molded into the piece. A black pup toasts a marshmallow on a stick over a stacked-log campfire. Another holds an unlit lantern by its bail handle. One wears a safety-orange life vest with black webbing straps; one is bundled in a buffalo-plaid scarf; others carry binoculars, a fishing rod with the catch still on the line, a folded map, a compass, a thermos, laced hiking boots, a canvas pup tent with guy lines, a pinecone, a hooded yellow raincoat with the hood up. Coats run yellow and cream, black, and chocolate, and the fur is molded rather than painted flat.

Twenty-Four Pups, One Piece a Day

The countdown has a longer history than the case. German Lutheran households used a December count in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and the custom moved from there to other denominations. What survives is the shape of it: twenty-four days, one reveal at a time, a daily minute that belongs to the season rather than the schedule. Here the reveal is a dog in a raincoat, a dog with a lantern, a dog with a marshmallow on a stick.

Because each figure stands on its own molded base, placement is easy. There are no hooks, loops or cords on any piece, so nothing has to hang and nothing needs a stand. A row builds along a mantel, a windowsill, a kitchen table or the edge of a bookshelf, and the order can be shuffled as the row grows.

The Cover, the Spine, and the Name Behind Them

The cover is printed as a wrap, front and spine together, on a rigid book-style body. The ground is aged parchment, held inside a navy rule frame, with gold scrollwork curling through each corner. The title reads Labradors in the Great Outdoors, and a burgundy ribbon banner below it spells out ADVENT CALENDAR. Near the lower edge, a circular badge reads 24 Acrylic Ornaments, the printed count of the pieces inside. Down the spine sit a tent-and-mountain crest, the full title again, and a paw print near the base.

The name on that cover is not decoration. The Labrador takes it from the Labrador Territory, which lies northwest of the island of Newfoundland, and the breed line runs back to the water dogs of that island, the St. John’s water dog stock that developed there between 1494 and 1790 and also fed the other retriever breeds. The American Kennel Club calls the Labrador America’s most popular dog breed and describes it as a friendly, outgoing, high-spirited companion. A lake, a rock ledge and a loaded pack sit close to where that story starts.

After Christmas Eve, the figures go back into the case they arrived in, twenty-four pieces and one printed cover, and the set waits for the next December. As a gift it suits a Labrador owner, a household that camps, or anyone who would rather end the countdown with a shelf of dogs than a pile of empty wrappers.
