Baking Days Advent Calendar 2026

The pad of your thumb finds the half-moon notch, presses, and the paper tab gives. One short tear along the perforation, and a numbered square comes away from the board, leaving a dark opening behind it. The miniature you lift out sits easily in a palm, and it already has somewhere to go: a round cream base stamped with the same number the window carried. Set it down in front of the board, and the countdown has started leaving a row.

A flat board with windows cut into it

What arrives is one shallow, rigid printed board in portrait format, not a tray, not a carton of separate daily boxes, not a stack of tins. A title block sits at the top, twenty-four die-cut windows fill the middle in a grid, and an illustrated band runs along the bottom edge. Each window is numbered, and each carries a half-moon thumb notch. They are punch-outs: the window is torn free along its paper tab, so there is no drawer to slide and no lid to lift. In the product photos the board stands on a wooden table, face out, and one window is opened at its notch, revealing the cavity behind it. That cavity is the whole mechanism. The gifts are not packed inside the board; they wait alongside it as loose pieces, and the window only governs which day they arrive.

Twenty-four pieces that keep their numbers

The set contains twenty-four separate miniatures, all freestanding, each mounted on a small round cream base printed with its day number. That detail decides how the month ends: after the last window is gone, the pieces still line up as a numbered row instead of collecting as a pile. Each one is sized to stand in the row in front of the board, so the lineup grows across December rather than arriving at once.

What the twenty-four pieces are

The assortment alternates tools with finished bakes, so the row reads like a workbench and a pastry case at once. The tools:

• a whisk, a pink stand mixer, a rolling pin, a piping bag
• a gingham apron, an oven mitt, a heart-print mixing bowl
• gold measuring spoons tied with a red bow, the sixth keepsake in the set, alongside a wire sieve and star and heart cookie cutters
• a jar of flour and a miniature RECIPES cookbook

The bakes:

• a chocolate chip cookie, a cupcake, a croissant, a gingerbread man
• strawberry layer cakes on stands, and cake slices
• a berry tart, a cinnamon roll, cinnamon sticks, butter pats

Every piece is painted, with a slight gloss that puts it nearer a figurine or an ornament than a toy. Piping, crumb and glaze detail are picked out at miniature scale, down to the glaze on the tart. The strong notes are the dusty pink of the stand mixer, the muted sage of the piping bag, the brushed gold of the spoons and the cool silver-gray of the sieve and cutters; the rest stays cream, oxblood and gingham.

The board as part of the room

The printed face is warm cream-ivory throughout. At the top, the title block reads BAKING DAYS with ADVENT CALENDAR beneath it and the line 24 LITTLE SURPRISES FOR BAKING LOVERS, flanked by wheat and olive sprigs. A red-and-white gingham ribbon bow is printed into the top-left corner, and the same check returns on the apron keepsake and on the flour jar’s ribbon. Inside the grid, each window carries a flat illustrated vignette framed with a small olive-leaf sprig. Along the bottom edge runs a red bakery shopfront with a striped awning, lit display windows, a chalkboard menu, a cafe table and potted trees. Set beside a fir garland and warm string lights, as in the staged photos, the board reads as a small storefront rather than a countdown chart.

A December that leaves something behind

The structure is old. Nineteenth-century German households counted December with chalk marks rubbed from doors and a candle lit each evening. What this board does is closer to the keepsake version of that habit: twenty-four numbered windows met one at a time, from the first of December to Christmas Eve, and a set of small objects left over at the end. Nothing edible is shown in the set, so the month’s reward accumulates instead of being eaten. By Christmas Eve the board has twenty-four empty windows, and the counter or shelf holds a complete numbered bakery.

The appeal for a home baker is simple: the countdown is the daily ritual, and the collection is what remains when it is over. The board can be set out with the pieces in front of it, and the numbers carry the order as the row grows. Twenty-four small objects, one printed board, one month that ends with something to keep.
